Are You Bored and Looking at "The Box?"

So, your stylist is booked out for weeks (or maybe just 3 days, we ALL have those impatient & impulsive days where we just want to DO something, I know- me too!)  You want, no NEED, a big change in the worst way.  While you’re not brave enough to actually take the kitchen shears to your shaggy mop, you may find yourself admiring how gorgeous Tina Fey’s chocolate brown looks on that $8 box.  Let’s face it, you haven’t had 5 minutes to yourself in days and there you are at Walgreens with the pullups, a gallon of milk, & a box of Moscato (bless the Lord that’s allowed now.)  What’s $8 more dollars for a sassy new red?  Can you really achieve this look on your own?  You have those free 7 hours after you lay the kids down tonight… Should you just save the money and the WAIT of booking an appointment?  The answer is NO, friend.  Drop the poison, buy a bath bomb and RUN!
Box color is an industry’s attempt to make a “one size fits all” situation out of something that is a much more complicated process.  Because it has to work on "most" hair types, box color is very overly concentrated, harsh, and downright terrible for your crowning full- time accessory.
When your stylist assesses your current hair and the result you’re trying to achieve, they take into consideration many factors about your specific needs.  Hair health, texture, and the porosity of your hair can majorly affect the outcome.  Professional, individualized color treatment enters the cuticle to deposit fat, beautiful, long-lasting color molecules where your hair’s natural melanin is.  Box dyes just stain the proteins on the hair, changing their chemical makeup- which is why if you’ve ever seen a Blondie try to go for Katie Perry, you may have witnessed a tragic fried green mess.
There is much more chemistry behind the scenes than you may think.  Color doesn't lift color.  We use color removers to achieve those results.  Black dye won’t make your platinum head Halloween ready, either.  We use filler to rebuild the pigments that were striped from your hair in order for new color to work and last.  Bleaching or lightening at home is even more dangerous, and can cause serious damage- not to mention chemical burns when not preformed correctly.
Hair stylists are professionally trained on how to correct color mishaps and apply conditioning or bonding treatments to help restore the hair when damaged.  Often, damage that is beyond repair will occur- and that will require a big chop!  Without a clean cut, the damage may simply start to break off.  We stylists call that a chemical haircut, and it’s not something you want.
Remember the next time you get a “wild hair” and find yourself leaving Hobby Lobby- super tempted to pop into Sally’s, think again.  We’ll be honest with you if your result will take multiple processes, but we assure you our color correction cost is MUCH higher than the one step auburn you desire today.  Leave it to your Beauty Mark stylist, who is not only professionally trained to achieve your desired result- but we also guarantee our work!  Do you really want to stake your hair dreams on the 0.0001% off chance that Beyoncé ACTUALLY uses Light Golden Blonde Feria in 5G?  Book NOW and save your hair!  😊
